THE 2006 EDITION IS NOW AVAILABLE!  Tom Sokoloski's C36 Tech Notes CD, 2006 edition March 23, 2006 In April 2005, Tom Sokoloski's first Tech Notes CD came out -- a compilation of every Tech Notes article written on the C36 since the first C36 came off the assembly line, plus a full owner manual for the original C36, and the Mark II... Blue Heron's Helmseat - custom made for your Catalina

Al Carlson is a Catalina 36 owner, and a C36IA member.  A few years ago Al and his wife saw a need for a usable seat behind the steering wheel.  As we all know the standard seat is too low to see anything, and it's too close to the wheel.   Retired, and with the time and talent to find a solution, Al handcrafted a seat for his C36.  It worked so well, he offered it to other C36 owners through this website. 

The Helmseat was created specifically for your Catalina 36! It allows you to sit behind the helm and keep your head height the same as if you were standing.  It's a really comfortable seat with a full backrest!  Al has sold 160 of the seats to date, and he now makes a custom seat for every Catalina, from the C28 to the C42.  This is a unique specialty item for the Catalina owner.  (Note:  Al has, on occasion, created a custom seat for a Beneteau & Hunter owner... but it's by special request only).

 

• The seat is constructed with an internal molded plastic honeycomb frame and covered with marine-grade vinyl. The seat back is attached with heavy-duty aluminum struts and hinges. The seat back folds down for storage.

• The helmseat base is formed from marine-grade King Starboard® solid polyethylene, which is impervious to saltwater and continuous direct sunlight.

• Legs are made of polished 1-inch 304 stainless steel tubing, and are removable for easier storage.

• Rail clamps are nylon, with stainless steel hardware. These clamps are designed for 1-inch diameter stern rails.

• All fasteners are stainless steel except the seat hinges and struts, which are aluminum.
